We are continually evolving to being more than just a meal........

Swansea Meals on Wheels famously relies on local volunteers to drive operations in all areas. This could involve delivering meals, meal preparation, meal plating, social interaction and assisting with our regular events. Without our local volunteers, this vital service would not have continued so successfully in Swansea since 1973.
More than just volunteering

At Swansea Meals on Wheels, our volunteers do so much more than simply fill a role — they bring compassion, kindness, laughter, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of others. They generously give their time, their energy, and their hearts to support our community, creating meaningful connections with every visit.
Many of our volunteers tell us that the experience is just as rewarding for them as it is for the people they support. They often share how volunteering has enriched their own lives, given them a greater sense of purpose, and allowed them to feel part of something truly meaningful.
Volunteering with Swansea Meals on Wheels offers many personal benefits. It’s an opportunity to live out your values and passions while making a real impact in your local community. Along the way, you can build lasting friendships, enjoy new social and cultural experiences, strengthen your community connections, and gain valuable skills and work experience.
Most importantly, volunteering reminds us all of the power of human connection — and how even the smallest act of kindness can brighten someone’s day.
TYPES OF VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES
At Swansea Meals on Wheels, there are many rewarding ways to get involved, and volunteer roles can vary depending on your skills, interests, availability, and the needs of our service.
One of the most valued volunteer roles is assisting with meal deliveries to our clients. Volunteers may use their own vehicle to deliver meals or partner with another volunteer as part of a delivery team. Most deliveries are completed in pairs, creating not only a supportive experience for volunteers, but also a warm and friendly visit for our clients.
For those who enjoy being behind the scenes, volunteers can also assist in our kitchen with food preparation, cooking, and plating nutritious meals that are made with care for our community.
There are many other meaningful ways to contribute as well, including assisting with general office duties, administration support, or becoming involved with our local management committee. Every role plays an important part in helping Swansea Meals on Wheels continue to support and connect with our community.
So why not come and try it out? We would love to see you!

CAR DRIVERS
Volunteer drivers help deliver meals to our customers. Our drivers team up with our meal runners and ensure our customers receive their meal, and at the same time check in with our customers to see that all is well.
MEAL RUNNERS
Volunteer meal runners join the driver to deliver the meals and take them directly to our customers. Meal runners hand over the meals personally and then take the opportunity to ensure our customers are okay.

KITCHEN HANDS
Volunteer kitchen hands assist with meal preparation, cleaning and other tasks as required by the kitchen staff.
Our kitchen is located at 26 Josephson Street, Swansea NSW

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Our Management Committee Members are all volunteers. Every year we nominate committee members from our membership.
The main role of our committee is to ensure we are operating smoothly and in line with our guidelines, policies and procedures.
Do you have management experience and you think you could help? Then get in touch, we would love your expertise!

OFFICE ASSITANTS
Volunteer office assistants provide administration support to our office staff. This includes helping to manage our databases, preparing promotional materials, taking telephone enquiries and coordinating our volunteer teams.
BECOMING A VOLUNTEER
Swansea Meals on Wheels will usually complete a short interview when you offer your help to explain what they expect from you and what you can expect from them. Swansea Meals on Wheels require references and we need to complete a police check.
These are designed to protect the clients whose homes you will be visiting.
To get started, please complete the volunteer application form on this page.
New volunteers receive an induction and ongoing training. Also experienced volunteers are often happy to share some of their experience and advice.
